The aim of the project is to explore which kind of contribution informal learning in the context of social housing could give to reinforce "social cohesion, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, gender equality and personal fulfilment" (2010/C 290/06). The project focuses on specific educational and community issues in the social housing areas, at risk of segregation and social exclusion.
While comparative research has been carried out on social-housing policies, categories and methods of funding in Europe, there are no work on the educational and informal learning processes implied in this kind of practices even if most of the programs of social-housing entails informal education practices compulsory for welfare recipients. Normally Local Authorities funding these services ask the providers to assure informal citizenship education notions to beneficiaries to reduce conflicts in mixed living environments and to assure a better integration process in the local community.
The project addresses theoretical and methodological issues in informal citizenship education with disadvantaged groups with the aim to develop a specific curriculum for adult educators and social workers on the basis of field research in social housing environments.
